A book of familiar, enjoyable pages about everyday life in Britain between the 1950s and the 1970s. It is written for an adult with a lifetime of experience: no cartoons, no gold stars, no time limits and no wrong answers.
Reminiscence questions, finish the saying, 9 × 9 word searches with the words running only across or down, word scrambles with the first letter given, missing letters, odd one out, what goes together, a gentle three-choice quiz, colouring, and a “My memories” page with writing lines 12 mm apart. No two pages of the same kind sit side by side.
Set in Atkinson Hyperlegible, a typeface made for the Braille Institute for readers with partial sight. Body text 22pt, instructions 24pt, puzzle letters 28pt, pure black on white with plenty of space.
Every activity works alone or with a companion, and most pages end with a talking point. A one-page note for companions and carers covers going at their pace, skipping pages freely, and what to do if a question brings back someone who has died or a hard time.
Ideas and answers are grouped by page number, so nobody needs a phone or the internet to check. If a memory doesn’t match the back of the book, the note says to go with the memory.
It is not a medical or therapeutic product and does not offer medical advice.
