A large-print word search book about British life in the 1950s, 60s and 70s, made for solvers who find most puzzle books too small to read.
100 word searches, one to a page. Each has its own theme, from penny sweets and school dinners to the wireless, holiday camps, the local pub and Bonfire Night, with a one-line memory under the title. Grid letters are bold 22pt, black on white; the word lists are 18pt, with a tick box beside every word.
Anyone who remembers those years and likes a puzzle, especially if small print has started to get in the way. It also makes a gift for a parent or grandparent, and carers can print a puzzle for the people they look after.
Words run only three ways: across, down, or diagonally down to the right. None run backwards. The typeface is Atkinson Hyperlegible, designed for readers with low vision. Every answer is at the back, two to a page in 16pt letters, with each word circled in solid black.
The pages are US Letter size (8.5 × 11 in). On A4, choose “fit to page” (or “shrink to fit”) and each page prints at about 91% of full size, so the grid letters still come out at about 20pt. The inside pages are black on white, so they print well on any home printer.
Every word belongs to its theme and its era, in British spelling, and there are no brand names. Each grid was made and checked by computer: every word appears exactly once, and every answer matches its puzzle.
