Privacy Policy
EDC Flow is a voice dictation app for Android made by Epicurean Digital Consultants ("we", "us"). It adds the Voice Bar, a dictation bar, above the keyboard you already use (or, if you prefer, provides its own optional keyboard). You speak, and EDC Flow writes what you said as clear, finished text at your cursor, or files it as a note in a Smart Folder. This policy explains what happens to your voice, your text and your data.
- Your voice is turned into text on your phone. EDC Flow never uploads your recordings.
- The text is sent over an encrypted connection to our server, which asks Anthropic's Claude to polish it and sends the result straight back. Our server does not store your text.
- Your dictation history and Smart Folder notes stay on your phone. They are not backed up or uploaded, and you can delete them at any time.
- No account, no ads, no analytics or tracking, and we never sell your data.
1. Who is responsible
Epicurean Digital Consultants is the controller of the personal data described here. Contact: hello@epicureandigitalconsultants.com · epicureandigitalconsultants.com.
2. What EDC Flow processes, and why
Your voice: stays on your phone
The microphone is used only while you hold the Voice Bar or its Smart Folder button, or after you tap one of them for hands-free mode, until you finish or cancel. It is never used while a password field is selected. While the Voice Bar is recording, Android shows an “EDC Flow is listening” notification. The audio goes straight to Android's on-device speech recognition, which turns it into text on your phone using the English or Turkish language pack you downloaded. EDC Flow does not save the audio and does not send it to us or anyone else. The on-device speech service is part of Android, provided by Google, and its own terms apply to it.
How the Voice Bar works: Android’s Accessibility service
The Voice Bar (listed as “EDC Flow Voice Bar” in Android’s Accessibility settings) uses Android’s Accessibility service, which you switch on yourself in Android’s Accessibility settings after the app explains what it does. With it, EDC Flow:
- notices when a keyboard opens and which text field is selected, so it can show the Voice Bar above the keyboard (some apps, such as those built with Jetpack Compose, don’t say which field is selected, so EDC Flow looks through the screen’s layout to find it);
- reads that field’s app name, type and on-screen label, and, when you dictate, up to 200 characters before the cursor;
- writes the polished text into that field.
Apart from finding the selected field, it reads nothing else on your screen and never reads a password field. It does not record what you type, and keeps none of this except the history you can see and delete in the app. You can switch it off at any time in Accessibility settings. The optional EDC Flow keyboard gets the same information from the field it is typing into.
Your text and its context: polished by Claude
To write the text the way the place you are typing in expects (an email, a chat message, a search, code), EDC Flow sends the following to the EDC Flow server over HTTPS:
- the text recognised from your speech;
- the name and package name of the app you are typing in (for example "Gmail, com.google.android.gm"), the type of text field and its on-screen label;
- up to 200 characters of text just before your cursor, so the new text follows on naturally (not sent for Smart Folder notes, and never from password fields);
- the writing style you chose (Professional, Casual or Concise), your Vocabulary and the names of your Smart Folders.
Our server passes this to Anthropic (Claude), which rewrites it, and returns the result to your phone. Our server does not store any of it and does not log its content.
AI Magic in Smart Folders
AI Magic organises your notes when you ask. When you press “Organise with Claude”, EDC Flow sends the notes from the folder and period you chose (each with its folder name, time, app name and whether you have ticked it off as done) and your instruction to the EDC Flow server over HTTPS. Our server passes them to Anthropic (Claude), which organises them and returns the result to your phone. Our server does not store any of it and does not log its content. Nothing is sent until you press the button. If you speak your instruction, your speech is recognised on your phone, as with the Voice Bar.
Feedback you send us
When you send feedback from the app (the card on Home, Settings → Send feedback, or “Report this answer” on AI Magic or History), EDC Flow sends your message and what it is about (an idea, a problem, an AI answer or praise) to the EDC Flow server over HTTPS. Only if you leave them switched on or fill them in, it also sends your phone details (EDC Flow version, Android version and phone model), the text Claude wrote that you are reporting, and your email address so we can reply. Our server emails it to our team’s inbox, hosted by our email provider; if that fails, it keeps it in a private file on the server until we have read it. We use feedback only to answer you and to improve EDC Flow, keep it for up to 12 months, and delete it sooner if you ask. If you speak your message, your speech is recognised on your phone.
Technical information
As with any website, our hosting provider receives your IP address and basic request details (time, address requested) when the app contacts our server, and may keep them in standard server logs for security and operations. We do not use them to identify you, and our own server code does not log your text or your IP address. EDC Flow does not use any identifier for your device or installation.
On your phone only
The app keeps the following in its private storage on your phone:
- History (if switched on): what you said, what EDC Flow wrote, the app name, the style, which AI model or offline clean-up was used, how long it took and the folder it went to.
- Smart Folders: notes you filed with the folder button or a spoken command (with whether you ticked each one off, folder names you chose and pinned folders), and "Saved Messages", a copy of each normal dictation (if history is on).
- AI Magic results: the latest organised summary for each folder, with the instruction you gave.
- Settings: style, language, Vocabulary and how many folders the Voice Bar shows.
This data is excluded from Android backup and device transfer and is never uploaded. You can delete single items, a whole folder, or everything in the app, or switch history off in Settings. Dictations in password or incognito fields are never saved. Uninstalling the app deletes all of it.
3. Service providers
| Provider | What they receive | How long they keep it |
|---|---|---|
| Anthropic PBC (USA), Claude | The text and context listed above | Deleted within 30 days by default. Content flagged by Anthropic's safety systems can be kept for up to 2 years. Anthropic does not use it to train models by default (Anthropic privacy centre). |
| Hostinger, web hosting and email | Requests to our server (including your IP address), and the feedback you send, which reaches our inbox there | Standard server log retention; feedback as in section 6 |
These providers process data on our behalf under their commercial and data processing terms, which include safeguards for transfers outside the UK and EEA. We do not sell or rent your data, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
4. What EDC Flow does not do
- No account or sign-in, so no name or password is collected, and no email address unless you give one with feedback.
- No uploading of voice recordings.
- No advertising, no analytics or tracking tools, no advertising ID and no device identifiers.
- No location, contacts, photos or files.
5. Legal bases (UK GDPR and EU GDPR)
- Providing the service you ask for (contract): processing your text and its context to write your dictation, and your notes when you ask AI Magic to organise them.
- Legitimate interests: keeping our server secure and protecting it from abuse, and reading and answering the feedback you choose to send.
6. Retention at a glance
| Data | Kept by us |
|---|---|
| Voice recordings | Never leave your phone; not saved |
| Text sent for polishing or AI Magic | Not stored on our server; held in memory only while your request is processed |
| History, Smart Folders, settings | On your phone only, until you delete them or uninstall the app |
| Feedback you send | In our inbox for up to 12 months, or until you ask us to delete it |
7. Your rights
You can ask us for access to, correction or deletion of your personal data, object to or restrict its processing, and ask for a copy. Because we do not store your text, your data is on your phone, where you control it. Email hello@epicureandigitalconsultants.com and we will reply within one month. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or your local data protection authority. Users in Türkiye have the rights set out in the Personal Data Protection Law No. 6698 (KVKK).
Delete your data
EDC Flow has no account and our server keeps none of your text (apart from feedback you choose to send), so the data EDC Flow holds about you is on your phone, and you can delete it yourself:
- Everything at once: open EDC Flow, go to Settings and tap "Delete history and Smart Folder notes".
- Single items: in History, tap the bin next to a dictation, or "Delete all history". In Folders, open a folder and tap "Delete notes" or "Delete folder"; remove an AI Magic result with its bin button.
- All app data, including settings: uninstall EDC Flow, or clear its storage in Android Settings → Apps → EDC Flow → Storage.
Text you dictate is gone from our server as soon as your request finishes. Anthropic deletes its copy within 30 days, and our host's server logs expire on their normal schedule (section 3). Because EDC Flow uses no account or device identifier, those copies cannot be linked to you. To ask about deletion or anything else on this page, email hello@epicureandigitalconsultants.com with the subject "Delete my EDC Flow data"; we reply within one month. To have feedback you sent deleted, tell us roughly when you sent it and, if you gave one, your email address.
8. Children
EDC Flow is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly process children's data.
9. Security
All traffic between the app and our server uses HTTPS. The key for Anthropic is kept only on our server, never in the app. Our server keeps no copies of your content.
10. Purchases
EDC Flow is currently free. We may offer optional in-app purchases, such as a subscription, in a later version. These would be processed by Google Play Billing: we would receive confirmation of your purchase from Google, never your payment card details. We will update this policy before any purchase is offered.
11. Changes
If we change how EDC Flow handles data, we will update this page and its effective date before the change applies, and tell you in the app if the change is significant.
